Scot Salmon is a self-taught painter, craftsman and photographer working and residing in Kansas City, Missouri.
Scot grew up in Northwest Missouri where he was influenced artistically by the changing seasons and erratic weather. He lived in a rural farming community where the lush landscapes and idyllic scenery often times gave way to harsh conditions such as drought or even extreme weather such as tornados.
Scot spent much of his adult life in Houston, Texas, with a brief stint in Scottsdale, Arizona. While in Texas and Arizona, Scot primarily focused on landscape photography. The expansive skies and varied landscapes coupled with the amazing light in both states gave Scot’s photographs vibrant life. That same light considered in his photographs has transferred inspiration to his paintings. The juxtaposition of the harsh desert landscape in Arizona against the beautiful skies was a particular focus in his photographs. Scot retained control of the artistic process by printing these photographs in his darkroom.
Scot’s current focus is primarily on painting. His work is acrylic on canvas and is almost exclusively non-objective or abstract. His inspirations are nature, color, architecture, design, photography and sculpture.
Scot’s goal is to create something beautiful in his paintings that urges the viewer to consider and experience the depth of the piece.
